My
Most Embarrassing Moment!
I could tell I was in trouble by the tone in my mom’s voice and the sharp looks she was shooting in my direction.
As she apologized to whoever she was talking to on the phone I could not imagine what was going on.
Mom had always kept us active in 4-H. The last few years my sister and I had developed quite a reputation for Purple
Ribbon Banana Nut Bread, so at the local 4-H bake sale our loaves were the first to be sold.
“That was Mrs. Carney.” My mother said flatly. “She bought your Banana Nut Bread yesterday for a
Ritzy Tea she was giving in Nashville
today. It was so salty no one could even swallow it!”
My mind flew back to the morning before where I was mixing ingredients into the batter and trying to watch Saturday
morning cartoons at the same time. I had switched the measurements of sugar and salt.
To this day, some 30 years later I still blush as I measure the sugar and the salt for a batch of Purple Ribbon Banana
Nut Bread!
